The origin of coffee – just a click away

We all know how much you enjoy your cup of coffee from your KLIX drinks vending machine, with millions of cups being sold every year - but how much do you know about its origins?
Coffee comes from a number of different countries. In the top ten, based on the number of bags produced, include: Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia and Ethiopia. In fact Brazil produces over 20 million bags of coffee in a single year!
Farmers work hard to grow and harvest the best possible quality coffee beans for people around the world to drink throughout the day.
Few seasoned coffee drinkers know though what a coffee plant actually looks like. The dark brown coffee bean that we all know and enjoy drinking actually starts its life as a bright red cherry!
To turn the coffee cherry into the refreshing hot drink we enjoy on a daily basis, it has to go through a number of carefully managed processes.
Step One: the bright red cherry goes through a pulping machine to separate the pulp from the parchment (the skin attached to the bean).
Step Two: after separation, the parchment goes on to fermentation tanks where it is left for up to 30 hours before finally reaching the drying tables to become the coffee beans we are used to seeing.
Step Three: the coffee beans are then checked at the sorting house. Only the best quality beans are selected to be used in our delicious cups of coffee.
Finally, the beans are roasted to develop the characteristic flavours of coffee. Whether you prefer lightly, medium or dark roasted coffee beans, there is something to meet your coffee preference.
KLIX offers a wide range of coffee to meet everyone’s tastes. Whether it’s the smooth-tasting medium roast Nescafé Gold Blend with its rich aroma, or the Douwe Egberts Pure Gold medium roasted well balanced taste, you can be sure there is the right option for you just a button click away!
